Bangladesh and Singapore have called for faster progress on a bilateral FTA and deeper business ties, while exploring greater investment, export diversification and cooperation in ports, logistics, energy, technology and other emerging sectors.

Officials from Bangladesh and Singapore have called for the early conclusion of the proposed bilateral Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and stronger business-to-business engagement to expand trade, investment and economic cooperation during separate meetings in Singapore.

Bangladesh State Minister for Foreign Affairs highlighted opportunities to diversify Bangladesh’s exports to Singapore beyond ready-made garments, including pharmaceuticals, ceramics, agro-products, jute and jute goods. The minister also invited greater Singaporean investment in logistics, supply chains, renewable energy, research and other emerging sectors. The two sides also discussed climate change, water security, carbon credits, research, cybersecurity, digitalisation, energy security, shipping and global supply chains.

Meanwhile, the Regional CEO of the Port of Singapore Authority (PSA) expressed interest in participating in Bangladesh’s Bay Terminal Project. The foreign affairs minister welcomed the interest and sought cooperation in port development, logistics, technology transfer and capacity building.
