DIAN has announced new security controls for Colombia's Electronic Invoicing System, including additional identity verification and human validation checks designed to protect taxpayers' information and prevent automated access.
Colombia’s National Tax and Customs Directorate (DIAN) has introduced a new validation mechanism for its Electronic Invoicing System from 28 July 2026, adding additional identity verification requirements for users accessing documents through the “Search Document” option.
The measure, announced by DIAN on 23 July 2026, is intended to strengthen the security of taxpayers’ information and forms part of the authority’s ongoing efforts to promote safer digital environments for users.
Under the updated process, users searching for a document through the “Search Document” function will be required to enter the identification number of either the issuer or the recipient. Users wishing to download the document will be required to enter the same identification number again.
DIAN said users may encounter the message “Request blocked by security controls.” while using the search function. According to the authority, the message will appear when the system detects robots, automated processes or artificial intelligence agents that could overload the document search system and pose a risk to the security of information.
The authority said the appearance of the message does not indicate that access to the service has been suspended.
Where the message is displayed, the information system will require users to verify that they are human before allowing them to continue the operation through the system’s normal navigation process.
DIAN said the new validation mechanism forms part of the technical controls implemented to preserve the proper functioning of the Electronic Invoicing System platform.
