Chile has expanded tax relief for storm-affected taxpayers by adding 20 more municipalities to its forgiveness programme, allowing eligible individuals and businesses to defer key tax payments without interest or penalties as the total coverage rises to 55 municipalities across nine regions

Chile’s tax authority (SII), the Ministry of Finance and the General Treasury, announced on 20 July 2026 that they have added 20 municipalities to a forgiveness programme for storm-affected taxpayers, expanding relief to cover individuals and businesses across nine regions hit by recent weather events.

This follows Chile’s tax authorities granting automatic tax relief to taxpayers in 28 municipalities hit by a recent storm system on 19 July 2026.

The beneficiaries now include communes in Coquimbo (Coquimbo, Canela, Los Vilos, La Higuera, La Serena, Paihuano, Monte Patria, Punitaqui, Río Hurtado), Valparaíso (Algarrobo, El Quisco, El Tabo, Navidad, Panquehue, Santa María, Quilpué, Villa Alemana), and Maule (Chanco, Pelluhue, Curepto).

Taxpayers in eligible municipalities can postpone June property tax payments (originally due 20 July 2026) without incurring interest or fines. They have until 30 October 2026 to file and pay through forms 29 and 50. The waiver applies to anyone who missed the deadline due to storm damage.

The programme now covers 55 municipalities across the Atacama, Coquimbo, Valparaíso, O’Higgins, Maule, Bío Bío, Araucanía, Ríos, and Santiago Metropolitan regions. Officials said additional communes could be added as damage assessments continue.
