NBR reminded taxpayers to submit e-returns within the deadline. The authority urged individuals to file early to avoid last-minute congestion on the online portal as the annual deadline approaches.

Bangladesh’s National Board of Revenue (NBR) has reminded taxpayers to submit their income tax returns through the electronic filing system by 30 November 2025. The authority urged individuals to file early to avoid last-minute congestion on the online portal as the annual deadline approaches.

E-return filing is mandatory for most taxpayers, with exemptions only for certain groups, including senior citizens, persons with disabilities, overseas Bangladeshis, and foreign nationals working in the country.

Officials reported that the online platform has been experiencing heavy traffic in the lead-up to the deadline. Taxpayers are encouraged to complete submissions promptly to prevent potential delays caused by technical issues.

However,  As of 18 November, just 160,000 taxpayers had filed returns for the 2025-26 assessment year. By comparison, 45 lakh returns were submitted in total last year—more than three times the current figure.

The Daily Star, a national daily, reported that sources indicated that the NBR may extend the filing deadline by one month, to 31 December, due to slower-than-expected uptake of mandatory online submissions.

Earlier, NBR extended the deadline for taxpayers unable to file their income tax returns online due to technical or registration issues.
