The government plans to reduce the VAT rate for admission to dance events to 6% from the existing 25%.

The Swedish government, in a press release on 13 September 2025, announced plans to lower the VAT rate for dance events as part of its 2026 Autumn Budget Bill, aiming to promote dance and cultural activities nationwide.

Under the proposal, the VAT rate for admission to dance events, including dance band performances, would be reduced from the current 25% to 6%, aligning it with other cultural activities such as opera, concerts, and theatre, which already enjoy a reduced rate.

If approved, the new VAT rate will take effect on 1 July 2026.
