Jamaica’s Cabinet has approved the expansion of the 20% duty concession for agricultural vehicles on 9 April 2025.
Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining, Floyd Green, announced this during the post-cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House.
Initially, the concession was limited to pick-up trucks. However, it has now expanded to include panel vans, small trucks, and refrigerated vehicles. The minister stated that the concession adjustment will help farmers upgrade their fleet with vehicles better equipped to handle their perishable produce.
In addition, the age limit for light commercial vehicles was increased from 10 to 15 years. However, the minister advised marine fishers to wait about two months before applying for concessions.
This followed after the Jamaican government proposed expanding the 20% duty concession on agricultural vehicles to include mid-sized commercial vehicles and marine fishers on 20 March 2025. The proposal also suggests extending the import age for light commercial vehicles from 10 to 15 years.
