The EU and Korea (Rep)  finalised a Digital Trade Agreement (DTA) to boost online trade and data flows on 10 March 2025.

Announced at the 12th Trade Committee meeting, the agreement will now undergo legal review before final approval.

Building on the 2010 EU-Korea Free Trade Agreement (FTA), the new deal covers electronic contracts, digital transactions and privacy protection while eliminating customs duties on electronic transmissions. It complements the existing FTA, which was amended by the 2014 protocol.

Maroš Šefčovič, Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security, highlighted the significance of the deal: “Today marks a double success, as we not only support businesses and citizens but also reaffirm our commitment to the international rules-based system. Our FTA and DTA will ensure fair, safe, and open trade—both online and offline.”

Both sides will now begin their internal approval processes before signing the agreement.
