The New Zealand Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment (MBIE) introduced new rules to improve payment times for domestic trade invoices and promote e-invoicing on 18 November 2024.
Under these Government Procurement Rules, e-invoices must be paid within 5 business days and other invoices within 10 business days.
MBIE is currently consulting with government suppliers and businesses about potentially mandating e-invoices for government billing.
A report is expected by February 2025, and any new requirements will be included in a broader review of the procurement rules.
