The Investment Protection Agreement 2022 (IPA) between Indonesia and Switzerland went into force on 1 August, 2024.
The new IPA addresses the contractual void left by the termination of the 1974 IPA between Indonesia and Switzerland on 8 April, 2016.
The agreement aims to enhance economic cooperation for mutual benefit by creating a business-friendly environment that encourages investment in both countries. It also recognises the role of investments in sustainable development and seeks to promote and protect them to stimulate business initiatives and boost economic growth in both states.
The 2022 IPA between Indonesia and Switzerland will remain in effect for ten years and continue indefinitely unless one of the countries choose to terminate it. However, claims can still be submitted by the provisions of the 1974 IPA until 1 August, 2025.
