South Africa has issued a discussion paper for comment on taxation of alcoholic drinks. This document looks at the issue of whether a uniform tax should be imposed on alcoholic drinks rather than a separate excise duty for different types of alcoholic drink product. This is a significant issue because duties on alcoholic drinks in 2012/13 amounted to ZAR 14 billion. Comments should be sent in by interested parties by 30 June 2014.
