A draft Royal Decree, regarding tax rise on tobacco is approved by the Belgian Council of Ministers.
As a result, the excise duty on cigarettes will be fixed at EUR 6.8914 (USD 9.2) per 1,000 pieces from 1 January 2014, and the special excise duty rate will be EUR 16.70 per 1,000 pieces and the excise duty will be fixed at EUR 0 per kilo for smoking tobacco, and the special excise duty rate will be set at EUR 14.5 per kilo. For cigarettes 101 percent is determined as the minimal excise on the weighted average price and to 102 percent for smoking tobacco.
