On 31 March 2023, the Minister of Finance and National Planning, Situmbeko Musotokwane, has declared an extension to the tax amnesty program which will exempt all penalties and interest on past due taxes. This extension will last for a period of 3 months starting from 1 April 2023. According to the Minister, there has been a significant and positive response from eligible taxpayers towards the tax amnesty program. As a result, the Zambia Revenue Authority has collected ZMW 2.6 billion from 11,700 applicants who have taken advantage of the program thus far. As part of the 2023 Budget measures, the Zambian government implemented a tax amnesty program which, applies to all penalties and interest accrued until 30 September 2022. All tax types are included in the amnesty, which was initially set to last for 6 months, from 1 October 2022 to 31 March 2023.
