Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon signed a legislation on 3 March 2025 that offers a property tax exemption of up to 25% for single-family homes.

A single-family home is a structure intended for human habitation, including a house, modular home, mobile home, townhouse or condominium that is a privately owned single-family dwelling unit.

The law allows homeowners to reduce taxable home value by 25% on the first USD 1 million of a property’s market value. To qualify for the property tax exemption, a privately owned single-family home must serve as the homeowner’s residence for at least 8 months per year starting in 2026. However, active-duty military members can still claim the exemption if the property is their legal domicile, even if they can’t meet the residency requirement.

The legislation prevents homeowners from claiming multiple exemptions on a property in the same tax year. In addition, the law allows those eligible for the exemption to pay full property taxes voluntarily.

The exemption provided by this act will apply to the tax year beginning 1 January 2025.
