Switzerland was imposed with 39% US tariffs on exports, which took effect on 7 August 2025.

The US is in discussions with Switzerland to reduce the 39% tariff imposed on Swiss exports, President Donald Trump announced on 10 November 2025, although no final agreement has been reached.

The high tariffs, introduced in August as part of Trump’s global trade adjustments, have put pressure on Swiss industries, including watches, machine tools, and chocolate, which rely heavily on the U.S. market.

Trump noted that while the tariffs were significant, the U.S. considers Switzerland a valuable ally and wants to see its economy thrive.

Bloomberg reported that a deal could lower tariffs to 15% and might be finalised within the next two weeks, but Swiss officials have not confirmed the report.

Earlier, Switzerland was subject to 39% US tariffs on its exports after the country’s President Karin Keller-Sutter failed to secure a trade deal with the US, which took effect on 7 August 2025.
