The EU and the US are reportedly nearing a trade agreement to impose a 15% tariff on EU goods imported into the US.

According to EU diplomats, the EU and the US are moving towards a trade agreement that would impose a 15% tariff on EU goods imported into the US.

This follows after US President Donald Trump has threatened a 30% tariff on EU imports starting 1 August, following unsuccessful weeks of trade negotiations with the EU.

The EU, a major US trading partner, has called the tariffs unfair and disruptive, while pledging to negotiate a broader trade deal with the US before the August 1 deadline.

In response, on 14 July 2025, the EU warned that it may implement countermeasures if ongoing trade negotiations with the US fail to prevent the imposition of 30% tariffs.

However, the EU decided to suspend the retaliatory tariffs on US imports, which were set to begin on 14 July, until 6 August 2025 to finalise a trade agreement with the Trump administration by the end of the month.
