Omar Paganini, and the Ambassador of Turkey in Montevideo, Tunca Özçuhadar, signed the Agreement to Eliminate Double Taxation on Income Taxes and Prevent Tax Evasion and Avoidance on 12 November 2024.
The announcement was made in a release by Uruguay’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The purpose of this agreement is to provide legal certainty and, together with the Agreement on the Promotion and Reciprocal Protection of Investments signed in 2021, offer a consolidated regulatory framework to strengthen bilateral economic relations.
The signing, which took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is part of the process of deepening relations between Uruguay and Türkiye, highlighted by the opening of resident embassies in Montevideo and Ankara in 2021 and 2022.
Türkiye has become a significant trade partner with Uruguay in recent years, ranking as the sixth-largest destination for Uruguay’s goods exports worldwide in 2023. Among the main products exported by Uruguay to Türkiye are live cattle, pulp, animal feed, rice, wool, and dairy products.
