Ukraine’s parliament has extended martial law until August, delaying elections amidst the ongoing war with Russia.

The President of Ukraine has extended martial law for 90 days, from 9 May to 6 August 2025, with the signing of Draft Law on 18 April 2025.

The decision, supported by 357 deputies, allows continued troop mobilisation and suspends the electoral process. President Zelenskiy faces domestic and international pressure, with US criticism from Trump and Russian questioning of his legitimacy. Opposition leader Poroshenko supported the extension but accused Zelenskiy of using martial law to increase his power.
