On 4 March 2019 the UK government set out its tax treaty negotiating priorities for 2019, following discussions with representatives of business, government departments and other interested organisations and individuals. The work program has been approved by the Treasury. A number of tax treaties are to be updated in line with the latest international standards and to ensure that the tax treaty network meets the objectives of business.
The UK plans to begin negotiations on double tax agreements and protocols with New Zealand, Peru and Sri Lanka. There are also plans to continue existing discussions on treaties and protocols with a number of countries including Ghana, Kazakhstan, Greece, Kazakhstan, Luxembourg, Portugal and Russia.
Since 1 January 2018 the UK has signed double tax agreements with Austria, Cyprus, Guernsey, Isle of Man, Israel, Jersey and Mauritius. A number of treaties have entered into force since that date including Belarus, Cyprus, Lesotho, Mauritius and Uzbekistan.
