On 15 October 2024, the Turkish government withdrew a draft Omnibus Law that had been submitted to the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye (GNAT) just four days earlier, on 11 October 2024.
The proposed law aimed to amend the Motor Vehicles Tax Law (MVTL) by expanding the motor vehicle tax to include smaller motorcycles – specifically those with an engine displacement below 100 cm³ and those with an engine power of 6 kW or less. This change intended to align the tax treatment of these smaller motorcycles with that of larger vehicles.
In addition to the MVTL amendments, the draft law included provisions for inflation adjustments, changes to the special consumption tax, and enhancements to the Defence Industry Support Fund. These elements formed part of a broader legislative effort to address various economic issues in the country.
A member of the ruling party announced that discussions within the GNAT Planning and Budget Commission will continue, but any further work on the draft legislation has been postponed until 2025.
