Officials from Thailand and Kazakhstan met to discuss bilateral cooperation, including the interest of Thailand’s Revenue Department in reviving discussions for the negotiation of an income tax treaty, on 15 August 2024.
According to the announcement, the Revenue Department of Thailand is considering the revival of discussions to establish a double taxation agreement between Thailand and Kazakhstan. If successful, it will help reduce double taxation related to international income tax, as well as promote international cooperation in preventing and avoiding international taxation for both sides.
“I have informed the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan that the signing of the Agreement on Trade and Economic Cooperation between Thailand and Kazakhstan will be an important starting point for developing economic and trade cooperation in various fields,” said Phumtham Wechayachai, Thailand’s Acting Prime Minister.
Any resulting treaty would be a first kind between the two nations. However, it must be finalised, signed, and ratified before entering into force.
