The Business Registration and Licensing Agency (BRELA) announced on 10 March 2025 that local companies must submit their beneficial ownership information by 15 April 2025. Failure to comply will restrict key transactions, including filing annual returns and updating company details.

The Finance Act No. 8 of 2020 amended the Companies Act (Cap. 212) and the Companies (Beneficial Ownership) Regulations, requiring companies to submit their beneficial owners’ details to the Registrar of Companies. The deadline, originally set for 1 January 2021, was extended to 31 December 2021 and is now further extended to 15 April 2025.

Companies must register on the Online Registration System (ORS) and report any changes within 30 days. Non-compliance may result in fines of up to TZS 10 million and restrictions on key business transactions, including annual returns and company status updates.
