Online individual tax returns filing, or by text message or phone is available in Sweden. This offers advantages for taxpayers such as earlier receipt of tax refunds due, and helps the tax administration by reducing compliance costs. The Swedish tax authorities announced on 22 March 2013, that a record number of taxpayers had already filed their tax returns electronically this year.
After the electronic tax filing service was opened for filing returns this year, already on its opening day 590,000 taxpayers logged in, and 116,652 of these taxpayers also submitted their tax return. This is a significant increase compared to the figures for 2012 when only 69,440 taxpayers filed electronically during the opening day of the service.
