The South African Revenue Service (SARS) released an updated version of the Guide for Tax Rates/Duties/Levies (Issue 17) on 29 August 2024. This guide compiles current and historical insights into the various taxes, duties, and levies collected by SARS.
The guidance has been revised to incorporate the provisions of the Taxation Laws Amendment Act 17 of 2023, the Tax Administration Laws Amendment Act 18 of 2023, and the Rates and Monetary Amounts and Amendment of Revenue Laws Act 19 of 2023.
This guide includes the following:
- Corporate tax rates for companies in general, including mining companies, gold mining companies, oil & gas companies, insurance companies, small business corporations, public benefit organizations, recreational clubs, and micro businesses;
- trusts;
- VAT, transfer duty, security transfer tax, skills development levy, and unemployment insurance fund contributions;
- withholding taxes on royalties, interest, foreign entertainers, sportspersons, and payments to non-resident sellers of immovable property;
- dividend tax rates;
- capital taxes, including capital gains tax, estate duty, and donations tax;
ordinary customs duty; - specific excise duties on locally manufactured or imported goods of the same class or kind;
- ad valorem excise duties on locally manufactured goods or imported goods of the same class or kind;
- Export duty;
- fuel tax on petrol and diesel;
- health promotion levy on sugary beverages.
