Romania’s government has announced an extension of the value-added tax (VAT) exemption to include certain supplies provided to hospitals on 20 December 2024. Additionally, changes were made to the VAT regime for non-reusable primary packaging as part of a deposit return system.

The government has officially removed VAT exemptions with the right to deduct for supplies to public hospitals, including construction, rehabilitation, and modernisation services, as well as the supply, adaptation, repair, rental, and leasing of medical equipment, which went into effect on 1 January 2024.
