General Tax Authority held a workshop to explain the new tiered excise tax on sweetened beverages and engage industry stakeholders.
Qatar’s General Tax Authority (GTA) announced, 6 October 2025, that they held an introductory workshop on the “Tiered Volume-Based Excise Tax Model” for sugar-sweetened beverages, bringing together representatives from various companies in the food and beverage sector.
The event aimed to familiarise participants with the latest tax developments, raise awareness of new regulations, and strengthen communication between the GTA and the private sector. By engaging industry stakeholders, the Authority seeks to reinforce transparency and cooperation in implementing tax policies.
During the workshop, GTA officials presented the principles and regulatory requirements of the new tiered excise tax model, explaining its expected impact on the local market. Company representatives were encouraged to ask questions and provide feedback, which were addressed directly, highlighting the Authority’s commitment to listening to the private sector and ensuring smooth policy implementation.
