Pakistan will be introducing reduced electricity tariffs this winter according to an interview of Power Minister Awais Leghari on Saturday, 9 November 2024. Business and citizens are likely to benefit from a 7-8% reduction in power costs.
Pakistan is significantly dependent on costly natural gas and burning of wood for heating in winter. The initiative, which is planned to run from December 2024 to February 2025, is designed to revive energy demand, which typically drops by up to 60% in colder months.
“Reducing prices will increase demand, especially in winter when people use inefficient gas resources,” said Leghari to Reuters.
