On 16 October 2017, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has said that Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and export-oriented units are exempted from paying regulatory duty levied through SRO 1035(I)/2017 on the import of raw material and machinery.
The FBR issued a list of 731 items for the imposition of regulatory duty ranging from 2 to 80 percent. Sources in the FBR said that through the SRO imports under Small and Medium Enterprises and Export Oriented Units Rules, 2008.
The sources said that the imposition of a regulatory duty would not burden the exporters or manufacturers of SMEs in the purchase of imported raw material.
