Representatives of thirteen Asian Finance Ministries and tax administrations met on 14 and 15 October 2015 to consider a framework to increase the comparability of revenue statistics. The countries involved in the meeting were Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam.

An annual report on government revenue statistics is prepared annually by the OECD and includes international tax data in a common format. Currently 60 countries are included in the report. The current initiative has the objective of improving the quality and accessibility of the data relating to developing and emerging economies.

Earlier in 2015 the OECD published a second edition of the publication Revenue Statistics in Asian Countries. This includes revenue data from Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia and the Philippines. This project led by the OECD jointly with the Asian Development Bank aims to provide the optimum support for the countries involved. Improved statistics will provide a more reliable foundation for analysis and development of fiscal reforms and provide a basis for transparent dialogue on tax policy.
