The law aims to enhance tax compliance, increase revenue, and streamline administration to eliminate inefficiencies.

Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu signed the Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Act, 2025 on 17 July 2025, which rebrands the Federal Inland Revenue Service as the National Revenue Service (NRS).

The transition from the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) to the National Revenue Service (NRS) brings stronger legal authority, broader revenue collection powers, and improved operational efficiency. It also aims to enhance the taxpayer experience with streamlined processes.

Additionally, the NRS will oversee the assessment, collection, and accounting of federal government revenue, among other duties.
