Commencing from March 1 2014, the Netherlands tax administration will issue approximately six million pre-completed tax forms to individuals, and around four million tax returns that have been completed in part. The taxpayers are requested to verify the information provided, and to notify the tax authorities of any changes by April 1, 2014.
These pre-completed tax returns contain information pertaining to wages, benefits, pensions (including foreign pensions), tax credits, mortgages and properties, bank and savings accounts, annuity premiums, personal budgets, and details of tax-deductible disability insurance premiums.
The tax administration is also conducting a trial of a new tablet application in 2014. This is available for download for taxpayers wishing to submit declarations electronically from March 1 2014. Called the “My return app,” the application is currently only suitable for taxpayers filing pre-completed declarations, where no alterations or additions are necessary.
The majority of taxpayers who return their tax declarations by April 1 2014will receive a definitive tax assessment by July 1 2014. The tax administration’s objective is to provide clarity to individuals regarding the amount of tax due as quickly as possible.
