The Netherlands Ministry of Finance, in a release on 19 February 2025, highlighted the status of its tax treaty network. The Netherlands currently has active tax treaties in place with 98 countries.
The release highlights the Netherlands’ ongoing efforts in tax treaty negotiations. The country is currently negotiating new tax treaties with 11 nations. 5 treaties have been finalised and are prepared for signing or submission to parliament.
The Netherlands will negotiate a tax treaty with 11 countries in 2025: Aruba, Belgium, Benin, Brazil, Ecuador, Mozambique, Uganda, Portugal, Romania, Suriname, and Sweden. New negotiations can also be started during the year.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (BZ) publishes an overview every quarter of the countries with which negotiations are currently underway. Morocco is not part of the negotiation plan this year. After a 3rd round of talks last year, a new round of negotiations in the short term turned out to be neither useful nor realistic.
An agreement was reached with Germany, Spain, and Thailand, and a signing is planned soon. The signed tax treaties with Bangladesh and Sint Maarten have been submitted to the House of Representatives and the Senate for approval.
