The amending protocol to the 2014 free trade agreement (FTA) between Malaysia and Turkey entered into force on 1 August 2024. The FTA covers trade in goods, including market access, rules of origin, customs procedures and facilitation, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, technical barriers to trade and trade remedies. It also includes chapters on economic and technical cooperation, transparency and dispute settlement.
The Agreement has an “Evolutionary Clause” which foresees that the Parties will initiate negotiations on trade in services and explanatory talks on investments one year after the entry into force of the Agreement to expand the scope of the FTA.
The amending protocol to the FTA was signed on 29 September, 2022.
The FTA between Malaysia and Turkey was originally signed on 17 April 2014 and entered into force on 1 August 2015.
