The Inland Revenue Board has opened its e-Filing system for the 2025 tax year, with mandatory online submission now in effect and new identity verification requirements for all taxpayers accessing the MyTax portal.
Malaysia’s tax authorities, the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (IRB), have announced that income tax return filing has been open since yesterday, 1 March 2026, for the 2025 year of assessment.
All individual and non-individual taxpayers must submit their BN forms electronically through the MyTax portal. This includes Forms E, BE, B, M, BT, MT, P, TF, TJ, and TP. The platform can be accessed at https://mytax.hasil.gov.my or through the official IRB website. Tax agents should use the Tax Agent e-filing System (TAeF) platform.
From Sunday onwards, identity card numbers will serve as the official identification for MyKad, MyPR, and MyKAS holders accessing tax services. Military and police personnel currently using service numbers must re-register their digital certificates using their public identity card numbers.
The IRB warns that failure to file returns on time carries serious consequences. Under Subsection 112(1) of the Income Tax Act 1967, taxpayers may face fines ranging from MYR 200 to MYR 20,000, imprisonment up to six months, or both.
Additionally, late submissions incur penalty charges ranging from 15% to 45% under Subsection 112(3), depending on the delay period.
The IRB advises taxpayers to prepare early by organising all necessary documents, including income statements, receipts, and invoices, to avoid last-minute complications.
