Malawi’s government has introduced new regulations to update its customs and excise laws on 1 August 2025.
The regulation, Customs and Excise (Amendment) (No.2) Regulation 2025, amends and streamlines procedures, enhances compliance, and enforces penalties related to foreign exchange and export transactions.
It revokes previous regulations, establishes updated procedures for export proceeds repatriation, foreign currency accounts, and penalties for violations.
The regulations also define administrative processes, including appeals and enforcement actions, to improve oversight within the customs and financial systems.
