Latvia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a release expressing its interest in signing an income tax treaty with Indonesia.
Officials from Latvia and Indonesia met on 5 September 2024, during which both parties āādiscussed bilateral relations and developments in the region, cooperation in international formats such as the United Nations and a dialogue between the European Union (EU) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Latviaās Foreign AffairsĀ Minister, Baiba Braže and Indonesiaās Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, attended the meeting.
Baiba Braže expressed support for Indonesia on its path to membership in the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). Braže also confirmed Latviaās support for negotiations on a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement between the EU and Indonesia, the signing of which will promote a balanced trade growth and strengthen EUāIndonesian cooperation, as well as being of a particular strategic importance in the current geopolitical context.
āThe security of the Euro-Atlantic and the Indio-Pacific region is closely linked; therefore, I appreciate Indonesiaās advocacy for the principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter, including preventing aggression, respect for territorial integrity, democracy and established borders, and Indonesiaās consequent votes at the UN condemning Russian aggression in Ukraine,ā Braže said.Ā
Any resulting treaty would be the first between the two countries and must be finalized, signed, and ratified before it can take effect.
