The National Bank of Kazakhstan (NBK) raised its base interest rate from 16.5% to 18.0%, effective from yesterday, 13 October 2025. The rate is used to calculate late payment interest on overdue taxes.

The NBK’s Monetary Policy Committee set the base rate at 18% per annum, with a corridor of ±1 percentage point.

“The rate hike was necessary to restore moderately tight monetary conditions and prevent further acceleration of inflation,” said Timur Suleimenov, Chairman, NBK.

The next scheduled announcement on the base rate is expected on 28 November 2025.

Earlier, NBK announced a further increase in the base interest rate from 15.25% to 16.5% on 7 March 2025.
