The approved protocol with Switzerland permanently allows cross-border workers to telework up to 25% of their hours, replacing the temporary 2024 arrangement under the 2020 agreement with Italy.
Italy’s Senate has approved the ratification of an amending protocol tied to the 2020 agreement with Switzerland concerning cross-border commuters on 11 September 2025.
This protocol, signed on 30 May 2024, will replace a temporary arrangement from 2023 once the ratification process is complete.
The temporary agreement, effective from 1 January 2024, permits cross-border workers to telework up to 25% of their working hours without altering their commuter status under the 2020 agreement.
The new protocol will make this provision permanent.
