Italy streamlines its tax system by merging decades of income tax legislation into a single 376-article document, replacing the framework established in December 1986.

Italy’s Council of Ministers has given approval to a comprehensive legislative decree on 18 February 2026 that consolidates Italy’s income tax laws, following a proposal by Economy and Finance Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti.

This compilation brings together decades of scattered tax regulations into a single unified document. The measure merges existing income tax legislation while eliminating outdated or contradictory provisions, thereby improving alignment with current laws.

The consolidated text spans 376 articles across three sections.

It incorporates rules from the original Income Tax Consolidated Law (Presidential Decree no. 917 of 22 December 1986), as well as numerous amendments introduced over the years through subsequent legislation.
