The Tax and Duty Manual details the types, taxation, administrative rules, returns, appeals, and penalties applicable to Irish partnerships.

Irish Revenue has released eBrief No. 149/25 introducing a new Tax and Duty Manual (TDM) Part 43-00-03, titled “Taxation of Partnerships” on 31 July 2025.

The purpose of this manual is to provide guidance on the taxation of Irish partnerships and how the use of an Irish partnership impacts on certain other taxing provisions.

In order to understand the taxation of partnerships and their interaction with other taxing provisions, it is necessary to understand the nature of a partnership. There are many different types of partnership arrangements, ranging from informal associations between two persons engaged in a short-term commercial enterprise to small family partnerships to large professional or business partnerships with many members, a detailed partnership agreement and a sophisticated management structure.

The key topics covered include:

  • Background on Partnerships: Overview of the nature and types of partnerships in Ireland.
  • Taxation Rules: General taxation principles for partnerships and any special rules that apply.
  • Administrative Details: Information on filing returns, handling appeals, and dealing with interest, surcharges, and penalties.
