India offers to cut tariffs on US goods to zero, Trump calls trade “one-sided.”

US President Donald Trump said on 1 September 2025 that India had offered to reduce tariffs on American goods to zero.

He described the trade relationship between the two countries as “one-sided,” noting that India sells more goods to the US than it buys from the US.

“What few people understand is that we do very little business with India, but they do a tremendous amount of business with us. In other words, they sell us massive amounts of goods, their biggest ‘client,’ but we sell them very little,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.

Separately, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said India aims to conclude a bilateral trade agreement with the US by November. He also noted ongoing trade talks with the European Union and a reduction in tensions with China.

Earlier, the US tariffs on Indian imports, as outlined in Executive Order 14329, took effect on 27 August 2025.
