Public Finance Ministry of Guatemala published Governmental Agreement No. 82-2017 on 4 May 2017, which terminated tax fines, penalties and surcharges for three months starting from 20 May 2017.
According to the agreement tax fines, penalties and surcharges will be terminated as follows:
1) 100% if the payment of the taxes owed or the fulfillment of the tax filing obligations takes place from 20 May through 19 June 2017
2) 95% if the payment of the taxes owed or the fulfillment of the tax filing obligations takes place from 20 June through 19 July 2017
3) 90% if the payment of the taxes owed or the fulfillment of the tax filing obligations takes place from 20 July through 19 August 2017
These apply to those who have applied for a payment plan and to those who have already concluded a payment agreement with the tax authorities before the provisions of the agreement enters into force. The provisions will be applicable to the extent that taxpayers have made payment of 100% of the taxes due and satisfy all filing requirements.
