Greece and the UAE have agreed to update and renew their 2010 tax treaty.  Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met with UAE Minister Dr. Sultan Al Jaber to announce the renewal of the double taxation avoidance agreement between Greece and the UAE.

This announcement was made by the Office of the Prime Minister of Greece on 2 May 2025.

They discussed strengthening their partnership and increasing investments, particularly in energy and health. Mitsotakis also highlighted the potential for a free trade agreement between the EU and the UAE. Al Jaber emphasised the progress made and expressed hope for further cooperation.

Earlier, the Greek Public Revenue Authority (AADE) announced that the 2010 tax treaty between Greece and the UAE was terminated on 18 December 2024.

This follows the stipulations outlined in Article 30 of the treaty, which specified that the agreement would remain in effect for a decade.

As the 10-year period has now concluded, the provisions of domestic tax laws will take precedence starting from 18 December 2024. Starting from this date, the provisions of domestic law will govern withholding and other taxes.
