The government on December 20, 2017, announced that it was adding an amendment to a tabled draft justice ministry bill to extend the suspension of the tax measure. Previously, it had been announced that it would take effect in 2018.
The current suspension is supposed will expired on December 31, 2017. Property owners associations and realtors have also criticized the fact that it would add yet another surcharge on real estate transactions in a market that has collapsed since the beginning of the economic crisis in late 2009. The draft amendment was submitted to the Greek parliament for extending the capital gains tax suspension to December 31, 2018, regarding immovable property transfer.
