The Federal Central Tax Office (BZSt) has released a communication manual outlining the requirements of the German Withholding Tax Relief Modernization Act. This act mandates that listed companies in Germany report shareholder information to the BZSt starting in 2025.
The required information includes shareholder details such as name, address, date of birth, tax number, email address, number of shares held, and the start date of shareholding. Reporting must be done promptly upon resolution of profit distribution, typically at the annual general meeting, with shareholders notified accordingly. A test environment for compliance will be available in June 2024.
