France’s Council of Ministers approved a new income tax treaty with Cyprus on 28 January 2026, paving the way for the agreement signed in December 2023 to replace the 1981 treaty once ratified and in force.

The French Council of Ministers approved the new income tax treaty with Cyprus on 28 January 2026.

The treaty was signed on 11 December 2023. This treaty seeks to prevent double taxation and fiscal evasion between the two nations.

The treaty becomes effective on the day after the parties exchange their instruments of ratification and applies from 1 January of the year following its entry into force.

After entering into force and taking effect, the new treaty will supersede the 1981 tax treaty between the two states.
