On 18 November 2022, the Finnish Parliament has approved a draft bill which proposes the implementation of royalty-type taxes on minerals extracted in Finland.
The draft bill proposed a royalty of 0.6% to be imposed on the taxable value of a listed group of mostly metallic minerals that will be limited to a list covering precious minerals such as gold and silver, platinum, palladium, base metals such as cobalt, copper, nickel, zinc and lead as well as iron, uranium and lithium.
For other (non-metallic) minerals, such as apatite, lime, talc, and soapstone, the bill proposed to royalty of EUR 0.2 per extracted ton.
The new tax would enter into force on 1 January 2024.
