A free trade agreement (FTA) between the EU, Peru and Colombia signed on 26 June 2013.The agreement will enter into force after ratification procedures are completed.
The agreement introduces technical and procedural obstacles to trade. The agreement provides improved communication and more publicly available information on technical regulations and standards, including extended deadlines for consultation. Peru and Colombia are providing for increased access for EU firms to procurement of central and local authorities.
There will be increased protection for intellectual, industrial and commercial property rights. Owners of property rights will have the means to protect their rights through civil and administrative measures and border control measures. These rights will cover copyrights and trademarks and will later be extended to include geographical indications.
The agreement also provides procedures for resolution of disputes including open hearings.
