The European Parliament and the Council of the European Union (EU) on 18 July 2013 published a Regulation (EU No 608/2013) on customs enforcement of intellectual property rights.

The situations where the regulation is particularly relevant are as follows:

• When goods are declared for release for free circulation, export, or re-export.
• When goods are entering or leaving the customs territory of the EU.
• When goods are placed under a “suspensive procedure” or in a free zone or free warehouse.
