Estonia ratified a tax treaty with Qatar, the Act was published in the Official Gazette on 18 September 2024. It will take effect once the ratification instruments are exchanged and will apply from 1 January of the year after it comes into force.
Earlier, the Estonian parliament approved the ratification of the pending income tax treaty with Qatar on 11 September 2024.
The treaty was Signed by HE Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari, Qatari Minister of Finance, and HE Tiit Riisalo, the Estonian Minister of Economic Affairs and Information Technology, on 7 March 2024.
The agreement is a first between the two nations.
The tax treaty aims to eliminate double taxation, prevent tax evasion, support economic relations, and improve bilateral trade cooperation. It also encourages and facilitates investments and trade exchange, and fosters international transparency standards by adopting frameworks for documented financial information exchange.
