The consultation ends on 11 September 2025.
The Danish Ministry of Taxation launched a public consultation on 4 September 2025 regarding a proposed law to reduce the general electricity tax to the EU minimum of 0.8 øre per kWh for the years 2026 and 2027.
The general electricity tax, currently set at 72.7 øre per kWh for 2026–2027, mainly affects households, small businesses, the state and municipalities.
A proposal has been made to reduce the tax to the EU minimum of 0.8 øre per kWh, resulting in a decrease of 71.9 øre. This change would align the tax with EU rules on non-business electricity use under the Energy Taxation Directive.
The consultation is open until 11 September 2025.
Earlier, Denmark’s government presented the 2026 Finance Bill on 29 August 2025, proposing tax incentives, reducing the electricity tax and abolishing the value added tax (VAT) on books.
